The Pap Smear is the screening test for cervical cancer and until now, doctors have recommended that women have one done every year. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) published new recommendations which state that most women should have a Pap Smear less often. According to the new guidelines, women in their 20s should have a Pap Smear every 2 years. Low risk women in their 30s could have it done every three years if their previous Pap Smears have been normal. You should make sure to discuss these new guidelines with your doctor to find out what your Pap Smear frequency should be.
